Ash grows in alternating bands.

Soft, fast spring wood and dense, slow summer wood. Texturing the outside of this vessel cuts away the softer growth and leaves the hard rings standing proud.

This means the surface you feel is the tree's own growth record.

The rings wrap the form like contour lines, following the shoulder round to a clean, undercut rim.

Inside, it's turned smooth and left pale. Ash dieback is slowly removing this tree from the British landscape. Most of our ash may be gone within a generation. Working it now feels like recording something on its way out.

Turned from a heavily figured piece of burr elm, this bowl keeps much of the timber’s original character intact.

The natural edge rim rises and falls around the form. Revealing bark inclusions, voids, and textured pockets. Rather than being treated as defects, they become part of the shape itself.

The burr figure runs across the surface in every direction. With clusters of swirling grain, and darker markings scattered throughout.

Rich honey and chestnut tones sit alongside areas of exposed bark, creating contrast between the smoother turned surfaces and the rougher natural edge.

Turned from a single piece of beech, this bowl has a soft nicely rounded profile.

The curve sits low and steady, with the walls gradually rising from the base rather than breaking into a sharper angle. Easy to place anywhere.

Beech has a fine, even grain that gives the surface a particularly smooth feel in the hand. The pale pink-brown tone will deepen slightly over time with use and exposure to light.

Useful as a small serving bowl, catch-all, or simply left empty where the grain can do the work on its own. Finished with a food-safe finish.

Turned from a single piece of British ash. This bowl features a more upright and straight-sided form. Different from the softer curved shapes usually associated with turned bowls.

The clean vertical walls give it a slightly more architectural feel. Whilst still keeping the warmth and variation of the ash wood front and centre.

The pale grain moves gently around the bowl with subtle shifts in tone and a few small natural marks left visible in the wood.

Finished with a food-safe finish to protect the timber without losing the feel of the wood itself.

A small elm bowl turned from a single piece of British hardwood. The shape is compact with gently sloping sides and a rounded base, giving it a steady feel despite its smaller size.

Elm often carries quiet variation in colour, and this piece shows a soft band of darker tone running around the lower half of the bowl. The grain follows the curve of the form, creating subtle lines that move around the piece as the light changes.

A small ash bowl with a compact, rounded form and softly curved sides. The proportions keep it feeling solid in the hand while still light enough for everyday use.

There are a few subtle variations in colour through the timber where the tree grew under slightly different conditions, left as part of the wood rather than worked away.
